Billie Eilish’s Bury A Friend is dark and we love it
Billie Eilish’s “Bury A Friend” visual deserves an “American Horror Story” season!
The artist teased the track on her Instagram page on January 28 and two days later the video was released. On February 1, it had already reached more than 12 million views on YouTube and was trending worldwide.
The track, Billie’s voice, and the visual all come together to deliver a nothing less than perfect combination. “Bury A Friend” sees Eilish putting herself in the shoes of the monster under her bed and becoming it. The visual literally does that as she is seen under a bed while someone is sleep-talking.
“‘Bury A Friend’” is literally from the perspective of the monster under my bed. If you put yourself in that mindset, what is this creature doing or feeling? I also confess that I’m this monster, because I’m my own worst enemy. I might be the monster under your bed, too.”
The visual is not for the weak at heart; form the moment Billie is seen and she opens her eyes, we know that some really dark 3 minutes are ahead. Her eyes are entirely black, her limbs twist, and hands are all over her before sticking her with needles. With every repetition of the chorus, the scenes are repeated giving them an even stronger effect.
“Bury A Friend” is part of Billie Eilish’s upcoming debut album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? which came by surprise and a happy one to say the least. It follows her 2017 EP, Don’t Smile At Me.
