Sally investigates: Halsey drops Without Me video with G-Eazy lookalike
Halsey released the new video for “Without Me” and it has a G-Eazy lookalike to play G-Eazy.
The artist’s “Without Me” is her most personal and raw track to date as she even uses her actual name on it, Ashley.
The video shows Halsey going through a relationship that turns out to be toxic on many levels with a G-Eazy lookalike. The pair start off drinking together and spending what looks like fun couple time to later be revealed as a dependent relationship with lots and lots of issues.
Halsey tweeted after the release of the Colin Tilley-directed visual
“It’s a really amazing and emotional process. The story is a reflection of a combination of relationships I’ve been in, or watched the people I love go through. It’s a reminder that you deserve more. And it’s okay to not want to be taken advantage of. By your partners, your friends, your family. You deserve happiness. Don’t be afraid of going and finding it.”
Halsey’s relationship with G was probably the most public of hers and one filled with lots of problems, breaks, and break ups and it seems that it was this track in particular that led to the ultimate break up.
“I listened to what I wrote and went, ‘Oh my god, is that how I feel? If that’s how I feel I need to put the pause on this thing right now,’ I’m obviously talking about my relationship. So the song happened first. And it was just like, this moment of sincerity.”
“Without Me” comes at a time of clear-headedness for Halsey on some level and since it’s her first release since her last album, maybe now we can start having expectations that a new album might be in the making. If “Without Me” is any indication of a bigger work in progress, it’s definitely going to be a great one!
