Tim, Avicii’s posthumous album, is due in June
Tim, Avicii’s posthumous album will be released to the public this summer.
Almost a year ago, the music industry and EDM in particular lost one of its modern icons, Avicii. The Swedish-born DJ and producer passed on April 20, 2018 at the age of 28 in Muscat, Oman. Recently, his family and collaborators decided to release the music he was working on before his untimely passing. Titled Tim after the artist’s birth name – Tim Bergling – it will include music that was 70% to 80% finished by the artist during the last 3 months of his life and was later completed based on Avicii’s notes from his phone and computer. This new music expected to be released this coming June will include “psychedelia, Arabian music, sounds of the Caribbean and more” according to collaborators, as revealed recently in The New York Times.
Carl Falk, who spent the last six months in a studio in Stockholm working on the album revealed the process he would go through on the production of Tim;
“I was trying to produce through someone else’s eyes and ears — someone who’s not here. It was really hard not to criticize yourself the whole time. Would he like this? What would he have done?”
Different words were said but it was unanimous that this music had to be released as that would have been the artist’s wish.
Aloe Blacc, who collaborated with Avicii on “Wake Me Up” back in 2013, will be featured on the first single, “S.O.S,” which will be released on April 10.
As for proceeds, they will go to the recently-formed Tim Bergling foundation, which Avicii’s family launched for mental illness treatment and suicide prevention.
